NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A disturbing video in which a young girl was encouraged to beat up another has police looking for a female suspect.

The fight was between a 6-year-old and a 7-year-old at Poe Park in the Grand Concourse section of the Bronx, 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reported. On the video, an adult can be heard encouraging one girl to strike the other.

“Slap her, just slap her. Just slap her! Just slap her!” the individual said.

A police source told 1010 WINS it was a teen who instigated the fight so she could make a video of it and post it online to become famous.

And authorities told CBS 2′s Hazel Sanchez the 17-year-old sister of the 6-year-old girl initiated the fight to settle a dispute between the two young girls’ older sisters who had an altercation over the winter holiday break.

The 7-year-old girl got the worst of it. She was slapped and her hair was pulled for an extended period of time. That girl can be heard trying to avoid the brawl. In the end, the 7-year-old burst into tears.

Reaction to the video ranged from horror to disgust.

“It’s disturbing. Makes me wanna cry right now. Because they don’t even know what they’re doing, what they’re fighting for,” said Woodlawn resident Yanil Morales.

“They didn’t know better. They didn’t want to fight. They were being encouraged to fight. So the person that encouraged them should be held responsible,” added Damien Baker of Riverdale.

The police source said the mother of the 7-year-old went to the cops and from there the 17-year-old girl was identified.

Police have identified the two little girls involved in the incident and are currently looking for the teen.

The charges in the case could be endangering the welfare of a child.
