NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — More than 100 employees have been laid off in the Newark Public School system, according to a published report.
The layoffs affected 129 supervisory positions – chairpersons who oversee departments such as mathematics, athletics and world languages, the Star-Ledger reported Sunday.
The layoff announcement was made on Saturday.
A schools representative told the newspaper the layoffs are expected to take effect July 1, but some of the administrators will be rehired to fill different positions.
Cost savings from the layoffs are said to be about $15 million, the newspaper reported.
