Murphy To Try Keeping Six Conn. Airport Control Towers Open Amid Sequester
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - As a result of the sequester cuts, six municipal airports in Connecticut will lose their control towers next month.
The very idea of closing the control towers is insane, according to U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy.
He pledges to do all he can to prevent their shutdown, but he told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau that "the Republicans support these cuts and they control the House of Representatives. So, it's going to be very difficult to postpone these cuts or put them off if we don't have one party participating in the negotiations."

Danbury Municipal Airport and Tweed New Haven Regional Airport are among the airports slated for tower shutdowns.
Murphy said that, in New Haven alone, that means 120 workers will lose their jobs.
"We're playing with people's lives here. A lot of talk about this in terms of the statistical impact on the economy, but there are families who are going to be affected if these air traffic control towers close down," Murphy said.
Also slated for tower shutdowns are Sikorsky Memorial Airport, Waterbury-Oxford Airport, Hartford-Brainard Airport, and Groton-New London Airport.
As of April 7, brisk business in and out of those airports will come to a screeching halt.
