With Amar’e Stoudemire reeling, Mike Woodson had to be thrilled to have Carmelo Anthony back in the lineup as the Knicks suited up to take on Stephen Curry, David Lee and the rest of Mark Jackson’s Golden State Warriors last night in Oakland
Well despite Anthony’s ‘triumphant’ return, the Knickerbockers manged just 63 points to the Warriors’ 92 and Melo looked far from 100 percent – going 4-15 from the field in the embarrassing loss. Boomer and Craig agreed that the Knicks’ performance could be described as ‘pitiful’ as Woodson’s gang didn’t appear to have any interest in playing a basketball game.
From there, the guys shifted gears and got to talking about the Giants, as the team assigned restricted free-agent Victor Cruz a first-round tender, after the two sides failed to reach an agreement on an extension. No matter how you cut it, this is not a great situation for the Big Blue, who appear to be locked into a little ‘game of chicken’ with their star wide receiver – and that’s not good.
As for their AFC counterpart, the Jets have signed David Garrard to compete with Mark Sanchez for the starting quarterback job and Craig has nothing but praise for the move.
Finally we get to the Yankees. In an effort to fill the void created by Mark Teixeira’s absence, Brian Cashman is looking high and low for his replacement, but apparently retirement suits Chipper Jones – and others – just fine. Can’t blame ‘the Cash-man’ for tryin’…
