Cops: Knifepoint Rapist On The Loose In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police and prosecutors in Newark were asking for help from the public Tuesday in identifying a rapist who forced his way into two homes at knifepoint.

Last month, the man entered two different homes in Newark brandishing a knife, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

He sexually assaulted two women in the first attack, and one woman in the second, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors have released a sketch of the rapist.

Anyone who might know who the rapist is has been asked to contact Lt. Aurelio of the Newark Police Special Victims' Section at (973) 733-7273, or Lt. Janine Straccamore of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims' Bureau, at (973) 753-1123.

The Essex County Sheriff's Crimestoppers program is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect.
