NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A suspected rapist was nabbed before he could leave the city and fly to Europe.
Queens detectives were hot on the trail of 23-year-old Prodromos Vasilopoulous when he managed to get past security at JFK Airport with a stun gun in his carry-on bag.
He was waiting to board a flight to London when he was captured, wanted for the rape of his 19-year-old former girlfriend.
Police said he had first threatened her with some 200 phone calls and text messages in one week, telling he she would pay for breaking up with him.
Then on Tuesday, police said he showed up at her apartment, pretending to be a UPS delivery man.
When she opened the door, he allegedly jolted her with the stun gun in the neck and stomach, telling her, “Now you will pay for everything,” and then raped her.
He’s now facing charges including predatory sexual assault, burglary, and criminal possession of a weapon.
The charges carry 25 years in prison if he’s convicted.
