Woman Gives Birth In Pharmacy Department Of Upstate Walmart

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's not something you see in Walmart every day.

A baby was born inside an upstate Walmart store Thursday.

Nathalie Saona went into labor around 8 p.m. at the big box store in the town of Wallkill, which is 65 miles north of New York City.

She was shopping for her baby -- which was due on March 17 -- when the birthday suddenly advanced.

"And my sister said, 'What if I had a Walmart baby?'" Saona said. "I don't think so. She jinxed it -- it just happened."

"The baby was pushing. I couldn't wait...I was scared," Saona told CBS 2's Steve Langford.

A number of people gathered to help deliver the baby inside the store, including a stranger named "Richard" and an assistant manager.

The ambulance crew said Saona gave birth on a bench in the pharmacy department, Langford reported.

Saona called the 6-pound, 6-ounce baby, named Kourtney, her miracle baby.
