Report: Falcons To Sign Giants Free Agent Umenyiora By Monday

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Free agent defensive end Osi Umenyiora is expected to sign with the Atlanta Falcons as early as Sunday and as late as Monday, according to a published report.

Pro Football Talk reported the anticipated move on Sunday.

The 31-year-old has spent his entire nine-year NFL career as a member of the New York Giants and is a two-time Super Bowl champion.  Umenyiora has been selected to the Pro Bowl twice and led the NFC in sacks in 2005.

He is expected to fill the void left by free agent defensive end John Abraham.

The Giants' top priority has been agreeing a new long-term deal with restricted free agent Victor Cruz.  Losing Umenyiora was expected due to the Giants having a slim amount of salary cap space available.

Umenyiora typically spends the offseason in Cleveland, Ga.  Cleveland is about an hour and a half from Atlanta.

Will Umenyiora's presence be missed on Big Blue's pass rush?  Sound off below...
