Cops: Suspect Beat L.I. Man With Wooden Table Leg
BETHPAGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — A Long Island man is accused of breaking into a home and attacking the resident with a wooden table leg.
Nassau County police said Albert Garfield crashed through the fence in the driveway of the victim’s Bethpage house around 8 a.m. Thursday. He then allegedly kicked in the door of the house and started beating the 50-year-old victim with the table leg.
The victim was treated at a hospital for multiple contusions and abrasions to his head.
About two hours later, police said Garfield went to a Kia car dealership where a woman was waiting to have her car serviced, stole her car and took off.
He then crashed the car on Hicksville Road at the ramp for the Southern State Parkway in North Massapequa, police said. When cops arrived, they determined had been driving under the influence of drugs, police said.
Garfield was charged with assault, grand larceny, criminal possession of a weapon and driving while ability impaired by drugs.
He’s set to be arraigned on Friday.
