Man Charged With Stealing 4 $50,000 Ice Buckets From L.I. Employer
WILLISTON PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police arrested a Brooklyn man late Friday, after he allegedly stole four antique ice buckets valued at a grand total of $200,000 from his employer's home on Long Island.
Anatoliy Maryuk, 40, worked for the 65-year-old man at his Kings Point home between June and September 2011, Nassau County police said.
At some point during that time, Maryuk stole three antique silver-plated ice buckets, each worth $50,000, police said.
The man did not know the buckets were missing until the victim was contacted by Sotheby's of New York in September 2011, after being told that Maryuk had tried to sell the buckets, police said.
Maryuk went on to sell two of the buckets to a man in Maryland on eBay in August 2011. The buyer did not know the buckets were stolen until the FBI contacted him and recovered them, police said.
An investigation led authorities to Maryuk, who was arrested around 10:10 p.m. Friday in Williston Park.
Maryuk was charged with second-degree grand larceny, and was to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
Two of the buckets remain missing.
