5 Hurt When Car Jumps Curb In South Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) --A driver jumped the curb in the South Bronx Sunday afternoon, leaving five pedestrians injured.

The car ended up on the sidewalk, plowing into the pedestrians, around 1 p.m. at East 149th Street and Bergen Avenue, police said.

Three pedestrians were taken to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center. Some were initially reported in critical condition, but were later reported to have suffered minor and non-life-threatening injuries.

A fourth victim left the scene before ambulance arrived. It was not clear whether the fifth victim was hospitalized.

The driver remained at the scene and was later also taken to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center for observation.

There was no word on what might have caused the driver, an 85-year-old man, to lose control.

Police said it was an accident.
