Bleecker Bob’s Closes Shop After 45 Years In Business
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A Greenwich Village institution for music lovers has closed its doors after nearly half a century in operation.
Bleecker Bob’s Golden Oldies record store has been at 118 West 3rd Street for 45 years, but closed its doors on Saturday.
The store will be taken over by a frozen yogurt shop in June.
High rent and online record sales contributed to Bleecker Bob’s shutting its doors.
A documentary was made to mark the closing of Bleecker Bob’s.
The store was opened by Bob Plotnik in 1968 and features a large collection of punk, rock and alternative vinyl. It is the longest continuously running record store in the city.
Music stars including Mick Jagger, David Bowie and Robert Plant have shopped at Bleecker Bob’s.
