Actor Hugh Jackman Returns To West Village Gym After Run-In With Accused Stalker

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Superstar Hugh Jackman is trying to get back into his normal routine after coming face-to-face with an accused stalker over the weekend.

On Monday, Jackman returned to the Gotham Gym at 600 Washington St. in the West Village where an accused stalker confronted him on Saturday.

Police said 47-year-old Kathleen Thurston accosted Jackman on the sidewalk, professing her love and asking if they were going to get married.

She then followed the Australian actor inside the gym, crying and screaming, before tossing an electric razor filled with hair at Jackman, police said.

"It was unsettling for sure," Jackman told CBS 2's Weijia Jiang. "Obviously for me, the safety of my family is priority. Deb and I also want to make sure this woman gets the help she needs."

Nelson Burgos, a porter for the building, witnessed staff members escorting Thurston out of the gym.

"She seemed like a wild animal," Burgos said. "She was acting crazy, her appearance was scary. She had tight clothes on, her hair was a mess, her face was a mess, she looked like she was out to get somebody."

Thurston was arraigned in Manhattan court Sunday afternoon on several charges including menacing and harassment. She told detectives, "This is not against the law. It is not against the law to have two wives.

Police said Thurston has been following Jackman for more than a year. He has spotted her outside his daughter's school and near his home, Jiang reported.

"Deb and I are very appreciative to the DA and the office for how expediently they handled the situation," Jackman said.

Jackman is a regular at the Gotham Gym which features a picture of the movie star wearing one of its sweat shirts on its Facebook page.

Known for his fit physique in his X-Men movies, soon to be seen in this summer's "Wolverine," Jackman is now getting back to a normal routine.

"If I don't go work out, my trainer is going to punish me," Jackman said before his hour and a half work out Monday.

Thurston is due back in court on Friday.
