Cromwell Town Worker Fired Over Missing Computer

CROMWELL, Conn. (CBSNewYorkAP) - The Board of Selectmen in Cromwell was jeered by an angry crowd after voting to fire a town official who allegedly misplaced or stole a town computer.

The Middletown Press reports the selectmen voted 5-2 Monday to fire Director of Human Services Theresa Strong, who had served the town for 25 years.

Many of the 70 people in the audience loudly criticized the selectmen, denied the allegations and said Strong was the victim of a witchhunt.

Strong denied taking the laptop computer.

Local police investigated and say Strong refused to let them check the serial number of a virtually identical computer that she said was her own. Strong said Monday that she was defending her right to privacy when she refused to let a detective look at her laptop.
