84-Year-Old Woman Dies In Lower East Side Apartment Fire

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities are investigating a fire on the Lower East Side that left an 84-year-old woman dead.

The fire broke out around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday at an apartment on Fourth Avenue.

The victim was found unresponsive and unconscious after fire crews extinguished the blaze, police said.

She had sustained burns and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The victim's name has not been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
