1 Dead, 1 Wounded In Newark Shooting

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- One man was killed and another was injured Friday night on a street in Newark.

It was not clear Saturday afternoon what sparked the shooting around 10 p.m. Friday on Bloomfield Avenue, prosecutors said.

Following the shooting, says both men were taken to an unspecified area hospital, where 25-year-old Felix Hernandez of Newark was pronounced dead a short time later, according to Anthony Ambrose, chief of detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The wounded man, whose name has not been released, remained hospitalized Saturday in stable condition. A more specific condition was no specified.

Further details on the shooting, including how many assailants may have been involved or what type of weapon was used, were not disclosed.
