Ex-NJ Football Coach Avoids Jail Time, Sentenced To Five Years Probation

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — A former northern New Jersey high school football coach will not serve jail time for having oral sex with a 17-year-old female student.

Rubinetti admitted to having oral sex with the female student and asking the girl to lie about their relationship.

Scott Rubinetti instead was sentenced Friday to five years of probation, which the Bergen County prosecutors recommended. He also must register as a sex offender under Megan's Law and is barred from working or volunteering as a teacher or a coach.

The 40-year-old Rubinetti pleaded guilty last month to criminal sexual contact and witness tampering in a plea deal with Bergen County prosecutors.

Rubinetti coached at Lyndhurst High School, where he also taught health and physical fitness, before being suspended after his arrest in January 2012.

Prosecutors say the relationship occurred between 2009 and 2010, when the girl was a senior at the school.
