Boston Bombing Suspects' Sister Under Police Protection In West New York

WEST NEW YORK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - The sister of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects remains holed up at her home in West New York, New Jersey.

West New York Mayor Felix Roque said security remains in place near Alina Tsarnaev's home.

"We have like five police officers at the scene inside and outside making sure that nobody goes in or threatens them or does any damage to them," Roque told WCBS 880's Jim Smith. "We're going to be protecting them around the clock just to make sure that nothing happens to them."

He said the town wants to offer this family as much as it needs. The mayor added he paid a visit to the sister right after her brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was captured late Friday night.

"Her feeling is she feels sad about the whole situation. She feels bad about what happened, she says she's not involved in anything," Roque told Smith. "It was so depressing, so sad. They were sobbing. I mean, they were broken-hearted."

The older Tsarnaev brother, Tamerlan, 26, was killed in a shootout with police in the early hours of Friday morning.

Roque had a message for any vigilantes who may try to settle the score with the Tsarneav family.

"Don't you dare. And if you were to come in and harass them or in any way molest them, we will arrest them," the mayor told Smith.
