NYPD Sergeant Arrested For Driving Drunk

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An off-duty New York City police sergeant was arrested in Brooklyn early Monday for allegedly driving drunk.

Sgt. Donald Stewart, 33, was arrested in the 81st Precinct, in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn around 1 a.m. Monday, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police did not provide further details. But a New York Daily News reported his arrest was preceded by a crash around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, in which Stewart hit a parked minivan with his 2011 Grand Cherokee on Putnam Avenue near Stuyvesant Avenue – causing the van to hit another parked vehicle.

Stewart did not stop after hitting the van, but was arrested two blocks away sitting in the back seat of his vehicle, after the front tire came off, the newspaper reported.

He refused a Breathalyzer test, the newspaper reported.
