WESTBURY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – There’s controversy and debate over the future of a nightclub on Long Island.
Peter Cavallaro, mayor of the village of Westbury, has accused the owner of the Avanti cabaret of operating a swingers club inside, something the owner denies.
The mayor wants to permanently shut down that part of the nightclub, saying it’s not consistent with the village’s revitalization.
But Deanna, a local homeowner, is on the club’s side.
“We have to have more business… I’m happy for anyone who can make a living in this day and age. It’s very hard,” she told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.
She believes some people are being overly sensitive.
“If they’re making a living and they’re paying their taxes, I’m happy with that,” she said.
The village board will argue the club’s future at a meeting Thursday night.
