NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police are looking for a man who may have murdered a woman in a supportive housing unit in Brooklyn.

Raynell Howington, 49, was found dead on Friday afternoon by first responders who were responding to a 911 call about a woman being assaulted at 330 MacDougal St., a building owned by Concern For Independent Living.

Howington’s family told authorities that both the victim and her ex-boyfriend lived in the housing unit, and that both of them have mental health issues. Police are still looking for Howington’s ex-boyfriend, identified by sources as Benjamin Braxton, 49.

Family members told 1010 WINS reporter Sonia Rincon that they thought Howington was safe in the housing unit.

“I didn’t know she was in this situation. Justice needs to be done,” said Raynell’s sister, Stephanie.

Howington was found dead in the early afternoon in the building’s computer room with multiple stab wounds to the torso, according to police.
