Stars Downey Jr., Paltrow Giddy As Children To Be Part Of Marvel Comics Icon

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Robert Downey Jr. is back as “Iron Man.”

The third film in the popular series is finally in theaters, Kevin Frazier of OMG Insider reported Friday.

As the third installment in the franchise was unveiled on the big screen on Friday, fans already want to know if there will be a fourth film.

“There’s a lot of good ideas going around, but, you know, also for me, I have an opportunity to not overstay my welcome and to retire my jersey when things are still cool. So right now, I couldn’t say yes or know if I was going to do another one,” Downey said.

But before Downey can think about another film, he might want to see his latest one first.

“I’m thinking about this one! I haven’t even seen it yet, but when I see it I will let you know,” Downey said, adding when asked how it’s possible he’s not seen Iron Man 3 yet, “It’s called delayed gratification.”

His co-star, Gwyneth Paltrow, decided to do the opposite.

“I did, I took my kids, and 17 of their closest friends to a little theatre in London, and if you could imagine watching it like that, with the pride of your kids seeing you in an Iron Man suit, It was really fantastic. It was one of the best professional experiences of my life,” Paltrow said.

For her kids, she said the real accomplishment was when mom became a Lego!

“There’s famous and then there is having a Pepper Pots Lego. I mean it’s a whole other level,” Paltrow said.

All of this wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for one call from close friend, Downey.

“I remember when she was cast, and I picked up the phone and called her and said, so do you want to be in a movie that people actually see this summer, and she said ‘Shut up!’ And when she came in John [Favreau] got emotional and said ‘I know this movie is going to work now,’” Downey said, referring to the director of the first films in the series.

And boy, did it ever.

“Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2” grossed more than $600 million. And one would think, with all that money, Paltrow could get some help with those Legos.

“I’m 40 and I can’t figure it out! I’m like what is going on! And my son is like, ‘Mom, that’s the wrong way!’ Oh my God.” Paltrow said.

You can see OMG Insider weeknights at 7 p.m. on CBS 2.
