Questions Remain As St. John's University President Father Donald Harrington Announces Retirement

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- St. John's University President Father Donald Harrington has announced his retirement, 1010 WINS reported Friday.

In a statement announcing his retirement Harrington touted the university's achievements over the past 24 years, but only alluded to the difficulty of the past year.

Harrington remains under investigation for misuse of university funds in a scandal that has been blamed for the suicide of a former dean, who was accused of embezzlement, 1010 WINS reported.

St. John's President Steps Down But Questions Remain

Students told 1010 WINS reporter Sonia Rincon that Harrington will be remembered, but that those memories may not be the fondest.

"After like 24 years of being president I think he'll be remembered, but not in a good way, because he kind of went out on a bad note," one student said.

Other students said there are still questions that need to be answered.

"I'm pretty sure the whole student body wants to know a lot more about what's going on," a student said.
