Single-Car Crash In Newark Leaves Two Dead

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Two people were killed in an overnight crash in Newark, police announced Sunday morning.

According to authorities, Diego Ayoso, 27, of Kearny was driving eastbound on Interstate 78 when he lost control of the vehicle, struck and mounted the curb.

The car then flipped and trapped Ayoso and his passenger Celinda Cuichta, 44, of East Brunswick inside the car, police said.

Authorities responded to the scene and extracted the two people, but were declared dead on the scene around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

The crash happened near mile marker 56 of I-78, police said.

New Jersey State Police detectives were on scene following the crash.

The fatal single-car accident briefly caused the closure of Routes 1 and 9.
