New York Celebs Go Punk, Rock The Red Carpet At Annual Met Gala

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's one of the biggest fashion events of the year; celebrities, couture, and art collided on Monday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual costume gala.

"They call it the Oscars of fashion," model Tyson Beckford told CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institute Benefit gave A-listers, including Madonna, Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow, co-chair Anna Wintour, and honorary chair Beyonce, a chance to flaunt their finest on the red carpet.

Big names from every industry were on hand for the benefit.

The Knicks' Amare Stoudemire called it, "One of the most elegant events you can go to in a lifetime."

Monday night's event honored the Met's latest exhibit "Punk: Chaos to Couture," and gave celebrities a chance to unleash their inner rebels.

Sarah Jessica Parker came complete with a mohawk, and donned an outfit complete with plenty of leather, spikes, and studs.

"Trying to emulate the punk rock icon Debbie Harry," she told CBS 2.

This year's fashion marathon is now complete, and as usual New York's heavy hitters came out swinging harder than ever, and did not disappoint.
