Caroline Kennedy To Serve As Juror In Drug Case
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – Caroline Kennedy was selected as a juror in the trial of an accused crack dealer after questioning about any connection she has to law enforcement.
She was selected Monday to serve as a juror at the trial of Nelson Chatman in state Supreme Court.
As WCBS 880’s Irene Cornell reported, the public questioning skipped over any mention of her storied family history. There was no mention of the assassinations of her father, President John F. Kennedy, or her uncle Sen. Robert Kennedy.
There was no mention of the other trials or tragedies of the Kennedys.
The only surviving child of JFK and the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis didn’t mention whether any member of her family had been a victim of a crime.
She told the judge she has known the current District Attorney Cyrus Vance since she was in elementary school.
She was not asked in open court if her support for Vance during his campaign for Manhattan DA would affect her judgment.
She did note that her brother late JFK Jr. had worked in the Manhattan DA’s office many years ago.
In response to another question, she said she knew “a few people” with a drug problem.
As for the DA prosecuting this current drug case, he remembered her and informed the court that he once gave her children tennis lessons.
When called in to ask if she recognized the tennis pro turned prosecutor, Caroline Kennedy said she did not. She noted that her kids weren’t very good at tennis.
