Mets Prospect Zack Wheeler To Be Examined In N.Y. For Sore Clavicle

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Zack Wheeler's fast-track to the majors may have just hit a speed bump.

The Mets are flying Wheeler to New York for tests Wednesday after their top pitching prospect reported soreness around his right clavicle.

Wheeler is expected to miss his next start for Triple-A Las Vegas.

"I think we're being a little bit conservative given who it is," assistant general manager John Ricco said.

Mets manager Terry Collins agreed that "it doesn't sound serious." Wheeler's velocity was right on target in his last start.

"It's for the best interest of the player," Collins said of the 22-year-old right-hander. "We'll wait to hear the doctor's report and go from there. If it's only one start, that's certainly something we can handle easily."

After a rough beginning to the season, Wheeler has rebounded to go 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA and 19 strikeouts in his last three starts.

Catcher Travis d'Arnaud, the team's top positional prospect, was shut down last month with a fractured foot.
