DA: Queens Man Headed To Prison For Stripping Church Van Of Parts

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A Queens man has been sentenced to two to four years in prison for stripping a church van that was used to transport elderly people.

Benjamin Livermore, 31, was convicted in March for gutting a $30,000 van belonging to the New Greater Church Of New York.

"This is not the first time the defendant has been convicted of auto stripping and thus the sentenced (sic) imposed yesterday is an appropriate punishment and hopefully will make him think twice before repeating his actions when he is released from prison," Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

The judge handed down the stiffest penalty allowed.

Prosecutors successfully argued that Livermore was seen stripping parts from the van in the middle of the day of Oct. 19, 2011.

The New Greater Church Of New York had reported its van missing hours earlier, according to prosecutors.
