Con Ed Asks Customers On Roosevelt Island To Conserve Power

NEWYORK (CBSNewYork) -- Con Edison is asking customers on Roosevelt Island to conserve electricity because of problems on equipment serving the area.

Crews have also implemented an eight percent voltage reduction on Roosevelt Island and several other areas in Manhattan, including Lexington Avenue to the East River, 62nd to 56th Streets and 52nd Street south to 44th Street between Fifth and Park Avenues.

The voltage reduction is a precaution as Con Ed crews work to repair the problem. Customers are being asked to turn the lights off and not use appliances until everything is fixed.

It's unclear how long repairs will take. For more information, visit www.coned.com.
