Harlem Woman Claims She Got Herpes From Lipstick Tube At Rihanna Concert

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) --A Harlem woman went to a Rihanna concert earlier this month at Barclays Center  and claims she left with herpes.

Starkeema Greenidge, 28, is suing MAC Cosmetics because she claims to have received the virus via a tube of RiRi Woo lipstick sold at the May 7 show.

Since Rihanna promotes the lipstick, booths were set up at the show where Greenidge said she was given a pre-used sample of lipstick.

According to a lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Greenidge stopped into the MAC officially endorsed pop-up shop at the concert to sample the RiRi Woo lipstick. Greenidge claims the sales clerk chose not to use a new tube of lipstick, but instead "one that had been used for other patrons."

Two days later, Greenidge said she discovered a cold sore on her lip which was later diagnosed by her doctor as oral herpes, according to her lawyers.

"This is going to happen over and over again if nothing is done," Greenidge, a waitress, told the Daily News. "I wasn't able to work for two weeks. It cost me a lot of money."

Greenidge is suing MAC, claiming mental anguish and emotional distress. She said she hopes to force the company to be more sanitary in the future.
