Shawn Harris Also Faces Robbery And Weapons Charges

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Authorities have made a second arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy in Jersey City earlier this month, Hudson County Acting Prosecutor Gaetano Gregory announced Friday.

Shawn Harris, 33, of Irvington is charged with felony murder in the death of Gywan Levine, Jr., Gregory said.

The boy was gunned down on May 17 on Rutgers Avenue while playing basketball with his dad, who was shot in the leg.

Investigators believe robbery was the motive in the shooting.

Last week, authorities also charged Harris’ girlfriend, 25-year-old Janice Everett of Rahway, with felony murder and robbery.

Investigators believe the two were part of a three-person crew involved in at least one other robbery in Jersey City on the day the boy was killed, Gregory said.

Harris also faces two counts of armed robbery and several weapons charges.

Bail on the felony murder is set at $500,000 cash and $200,000 cash on the other robbery.

Police are looking for at least one other suspect in the case and are asking anyone with information to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit at (201) 915-1345.
