Rep. Carolyn Maloney To Make Stage Debut As Corpse In 'Romeo And Juliet'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney is excited about her stage debut, even if it means playing a corpse.

Maloney, 67, will appear on opening night of the American Ballet Theatre's production of "Romeo and Juliet" on June 10 at the Metropolitan Opera House.

Maloney will play one of the dead bodies in the Capulet family crypt during the final scene in which the star-crossed lovers take their own lives.

The congresswoman studied dance as a youth and dreamed of becoming a ballerina, but Maloney was lucky to still be able to walk after she was struck by a drunk driver at 17.

"I'm finally making it to the stage in ballet," Maloney told 1010 WINS. "I promise my constituents that I will not let my day job suffer because of my night job on this one day."
