Report: 2 People Hit, Killed By LIRR Trains In Separate Incidents

EAST MORICHES, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Two people were killed by Long Island Rail Road commuter trains in separate incidents Saturday, according to a published report.

The first incident happened around 10:10 a.m., when a man was struck and killed by a train near East Moriches, a railroad spokeswoman told Newsday. The incident shut down service between Montauk and Patchogue and prompted the organization to dispatch shuttle buses, the newspaper reported.

The victim was on a bicycle and went around crossing gates before being hit and killed by the 10:01 a.m. train from Speonk to Babylon, which had seven people onboard, the newspaper reported.

The second incident happened around 11:30 a.m., when a Ronkonkoma-bound train hit and killed a person about a mile west of the station, the paper reported. The 10:13 a.m. train had 200 passengers at the time, the paper reported.
