Rain Could Spoil Mets' Harvey-Wheeler Double Dip In Atlanta

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Rain, rain, go away; don't spoil Zack and Harvey day.

Some seriously wet weather has made its way to New York, putting the Mets' afternoon game against the St. Louis Cardinals in jeopardy.

But that's not all. If the game is postponed, you can say goodbye to some of the anticipation for Tuesday's doubleheader, which was expected to feature ace Matt Harvey and prospect Zack Wheeler in his major league debut.

Harvey is slated to take the hill Thursday at Citi Field. Mets manager Terry Collins said if the game is rained out, Harvey would likely pitch Friday night against the Chicago Cubs. That means the starter wouldn't be on schedule for Tuesday's doubleheader.

"I'd move him back a day," Collins said Wednesday. "It doesn't look good, I know that. We'll just make our adjustments and move everybody back one."

The Mets have already had six games postponed by rain or snow.

Thursday would make seven.

"I don't think anybody in baseball has gone through what we've gone through this year," Collins said.

The Mets have strongly hinted that Wheeler will make his debut on June 18 in Atlanta.
