NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – As Tim Tebow settles in as a New England Patriot, the anticipation builds.
What position will he play? Will he be used differently as a Pat then he was as a Jet? How big will his role be?
Many in the football world have expressed their opinions about the Patriots’ decision to bring in Tebow, and Giants safety Antrel Rolle offered his two cents on the subject on WFAN radio on Friday.
“Honestly, I thought it was a good move,” Rolle told WFAN co-hosts Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts on Friday. “I thought it was a good move for Tim Tebow. We all know that Tim Tebow is an athlete. I really don’t comment too much on him being a quarterback or whatnot — that’s not for me to say. The guy has won games in this league, whether it’s with his arm, whether it’s with his legs. I think I’ve seen him win with both.”
Tebow was cut by the Jets in April after one disappointing season in New York. Many wondered whether he was through in the NFL — until the Patriots swooped in and signed him to a non-guaranteed two-year deal.
New England coach Bill Belichick has been mum on Tebow’s role, though with future Hall of Famer Tom Brady under center, you can be sure that there will be no QB controversy this time around.
“Just to be a part of the New England Patriots, we all know the mindset of Bill Belichick,” Rolle told Joe & Evan. “We all know that he’s a mastermind of a guy. And I’m pretty sure he will have situations drawn up for Tim Tebow where he can definitely expose his talents.”
Used primarily as a personal punt protector on special teams in 2012, Tebow threw just eight passes, completing six for 39 yards. He also had 32 carries for 102 yards. The former first-round pick didn’t score any touchdowns and the Jets’ ballyhooed Wildcat offense was a bust.
