Bayonne 8th Grader Accused Of Bringing Marijuana To Graduation

BAYONNE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Authorities say a Bayonne student was arrested at her eighth-grade graduation after marijuana cigarettes were found in her purse.

City police tell The Jersey Journal that a teacher supervising Monday's ceremony at the Midtown Community School was holding some students' purses as they went to get their diplomas.

When she smelled marijuana coming from one of them, she brought the purse to the principal's office. School officials soon found the drugs underneath a white tissue.

Police were called to the school and the girl was arrested for possession of marijuana. She was released to her parent's custody.
