Police: Suspects Used Drive-Thru Window To Rob L.I. McDonald's

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating an early-morning robbery at a McDonald's on Long Island.

The incident happened at the McDonald's on 5500 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa around 4 a.m. Thursday.

The driver of a late model Nissan placed an order and as he drove up to pick up the food, two men got out of the car and climbed their way into the store using the drive-thru window, police said.

Once inside, one of the suspects forced a 20-year-old employee onto the floor while the other suspect demanded money from another employee, police said.

The suspects took $2,000 from the registers and an office safe before escaping out the window and fleeing the scene, police said.

"Certainly it is unusual for robbers or thieves to utilize the drive-thru window to crawl in," Nassau County Police Inspector Kenneth Lack said. "I haven't heard about it before, I'm sure it's been done in the past, but it's definitely very unusual."

Both of the suspects covered their faces with bandanas and one had a gun, police said.

The employees were not hurt.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
