NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The Knicks did it this past season, and the Nets will do it this coming season.
Brooklyn is going international.
The Nets will play the Hawks at The O2 in London on January 16, 2014.
This isn’t the first time that the franchise has played in Europe. New Jersey played a preseason game in London in 2008 and then two regular-season contests against the Raptors in 2011.
“We are very excited to once again represent the NBA in London,” Nets general manager Billy King said on the Nets’ official website. “The fans have always been very supportive, and we look forward to once again entertaining them with Brooklyn Nets basketball.”
Point guard Deron Williams, for one, is very excited about the trip.
“It is always an honor to represent the league overseas,” Williams said, according to the team’s website. “Playing in London has a playoff-like intensity, and the energy in the building is great for the players on both teams. It should be very exciting.”
Tickets for the game will go on sale in October.
