With Temperatures On The Rise, City Pools Open For The Summer

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York City's public outdoor pools opened for the summer on Thursday.

Crowds at Brooklyn's McCarren Park Pool were smaller, for Thursday's opening, than they were last summer. However, the smaller crowds didn't ruin the fun for 12-year-old Kiera.

"It was good, it was safe, it was nice and clean," she told 1010 WINS reporter Carol D'Auria.

Police and Parks Department workers were on hand for Thursday's opening, after a slew of fights marred summer fun for some patrons in 2012.

Swimming lessons at many of the city's pools are free. More information is available at the Parks Department's Website.
