Female Service Members Treated To Full Day Of Pampering At Manhattan Salon

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- They spend most of their time in uniform, defending our country, but on Monday some military women were treated to a well deserved break. A group of female service members were given a day of pampering at L'Appartment Hair Boudoir on East 57th Street.

The full service makeover included hair styling and coloring, makeup, and a manicure by celebrity stylist Barbara Mutnic.

"I feel wonderful that they're doing good things for us, it's amazing," Rapcelias Almonte told CBS 2's Emily Smith.

Almonte is in the Army National Guard and has gone on tours of duty to Iraq and Afghanistan. She received the celebrity style treatment as part of a program designed by Linda Franklin called "Shining Services."

"To be able to give back to them, to show them the appreciation, makes me feel good," Franklin said.

In addition to the makeover, champagne, and other treats, the women were given a complimentary pair of sunglasses from Lumette, priced at $300.

After three hours of pampering these female veterans felt beautiful inside and out.
