Yankees Place Jayson Nix On DL, Sign Infielder Luis Cruz

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Yankees announced on Wednesday they have placed infielder Jayson Nix on the 15-day disabled list due to a hamstring strain.

To fill their need at shortstop, the Yankees have signed former Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Luis Cruz.

He will be immediately inserted into the lineup tonight at Target Field against the Minnesota Twins. Cruz will be the fifth different starting shortstop for the Bombers in 2013 and will bat eighth.

Cruz played 45 games for the Dodgers in 2013 and batted .127 with 1 home run and 6 RBI in 118 at-bats. He has only committed 10 errors in 600 chances over 1,318.2 career innings in the field.
