Woman Killed, Man Injured In Long Island Expressway Crash

HOLBROOK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A woman was killed early Sunday, and her husband was injured, when their sport-utility vehicle crashed into a pickup truck on the Long Island Expressway.

Around 4:30 a.m., Matthew Polashek, 33, was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon west on the expressway between exits 61 and 62 in Holbrook, when the vehicle veered onto the right shoulder and slammed into the 1997 Dodge pickup truck.

Polashek's wife, Stacie – also 33 -- was a passenger in the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office.

Polashek himself was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

No one was inside the broken-down pickup truck at the time.

Police Sunday afternoon were investigating what caused the Queens couple's vehicle to swerve and hit the truck.
