Prosecutor: Driver In Rt. 17 Crash Was Drunk
ROCHELLE PARK, N.J. (AP) -- Prosecutors say a northern New Jersey man was driving drunk when his sport utility vehicle crashed into a utility pole and overturned, injuring himself and two passengers.
Edward Davis was charged with two counts of assault by auto shortly after the crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Route 17 north in Rochelle Park. Bail was set at $35,000 for the 33-year-old Mahwah resident, who was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
Clint Callahan, a 25-year-old Ramsey resident who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was ejected from the SUV and suffered serious internal injuries. He underwent surgery and was hospitalized in serious condition late Saturday afternoon.
Callahan's 23-year-old brother, James, suffered facial injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The Ramsey resident was sitting in a rear seat.
