NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting in Newark that left a suspect wounded Friday morning.

Two police officers chased a Land Rover stolen from Morris County into the parking lot of the Marriott SpringHill Suites near Newark Liberty Airport around 7 a.m., the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release.

Three suspects jumped out of the vehicle and into an Audi that had been stolen from Monmouth County, officials said.

One of the officers fired two shots, striking one of the suspects in the head after the Audi came at the officers, officials said.

That suspect was taken to University Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the two other suspects drove off in the Audi which was later found by police a short distance away, officials said.

The two suspects fled on foot and are still on the loose.

The officers were treated at a hospital for stress-related symptoms, officials said.

The investigation is ongoing.
