Yankees Ace CC Sabathia: 'I'm Not Very Good — It's Embarrassing'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- After surrendering seven runs on nine hits in just five innings of work against the rival Red Sox on Sunday night, CC Sabathia is beating himself up following his lousy performance.

"It is unacceptable," the Yankees' pitcher told reporters. "I (stink). I wish I had an excuse of something, but I'm not very good."

Sabathia, who is supposed to be the Yankees' ace, is now 9-8 with a 4.37 ERA. Of the nine hits that the Red Sox managed off of Sabathia, two of them left the ballpark.

"It (stinks)," the 33-year-old said. "It is embarrassing. You have to try to work through it. Figure something out and work through it."

Sabathia claims that he is physically healthy, but Sunday night was the first time that he allowed seven or more runs in a five-inning outing as a Yankee since 2008. Yankees manager Joe Girardi seems to be as clueless as the six-time All-Star as to why the left-hander is struggling.

"It is kind of strange," the skipper said to reporters after the game. "He has been so good for so long, to see him struggle a little bit is kind of strange. It is something we are not used to seeing."

The Yankees lost two of three to the Sox, putting them seven games behind the American League East leaders.
