Musicians Gather In Hoboken To Take Crack At Performance Record

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- They tried and came up short. Several hundred people showed up at Sinatra Park on Thursday to attempt to break the record for the most people playing the same song.

"Going for the world record, trying to get the most people together at one time, playing one song," Guitar Bar owner and event organizer Jim Mastro told 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten.

Hundreds Attempt To Break Performance Record In Hoboken Park

The few hundred in attendance enjoyed each other's company on a cool summer night while they strummed Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" in unison on acoustic guitars.

They would have needed 2,052 people to break the record that was set in California.

The attempt was scheduled to precede a performance by Dylan, Wilco, and My Morning Jacket, set for Hoboken's Pier A Park on Friday.
