Gisele Bündchen's Instagram Photo Raises Parenting Concerns For Some

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- How young is too young to pierce your child's ears?

The question is making its way around the blogosphere Tuesday in response to a photo posted by supermodel Gisele Bündchen on her Instagram account.

The picture shows the Brazilian babe holding her 7-month-old daughter, Vivian Brady, who is wearing a necklace and what appear to be small gold stud earrings.

Bündchen has two children with NFL star Tom Brady.

Some so-called "mommy bloggers" take issue with piercing a youngster's ears, while others believe it's nobody's business but Bündchen and Brady's.

"Parents have been doing this for decades," wrote CBS 2 News Facebook fan Jen Seifert. "As long as they are old enough for their first set of shots, who cares?"

Other New Yorkers disagree.

"Maybe she doesn't want her ears pierced," said another New Yorker. "She's too young to decide if she even likes earrings."

Others can't understand why this is even making headlines.

"It's one of the first things Latin Americans do to baby girls in the first few months of life," wrote CBS 2 Facebook fan Joanna Delmonte. "Not newsworthy. At all."

Medical experts say there is little risk in performing the procedure at a young age.
