Police Search For Man Who Attacked, Robbed Woman In West Harlem

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday were asking for help from the public in finding a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery in West Harlem.

The robbery happened around 2:30 a.m. on July 15, police said. A man offered a 48-year-old woman assistance in getting into the lobby of her building in the area of Hamilton Place, but then placed her into a chokehold, police said.

The man went on to force the woman to the ground and rip away two gold chains from her neck, police said. He then ran off.

Police have released a surveillance video of the attack in progress. The suspect pulls the woman away from what appears to be a walker after he appears to be holding the door open for her.

The woman suffered minor injuries, police said.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers Web site, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
