New Orleans, LA
Summer is festival season in New Orleans, and if you can stand the heat, you'll enjoy some of the best food, music, history and culture at a fraction of the cost compared to busier times of the year. From the FREE Satchmo SummerFest (in honor of Louis Armstrong) to Coolinary New Orleans (the city's restaurant month offering great discounts at top foodie hotspots), August is a great time to inexpensively visit New Orleans.

When travel demand softens, it's best book a package for the BEST deal: Vacation Package: Round trip airfare from NYC + 4 Nights at The Saint Hotel, Autograph Collection at $496 per person.

St. Petersburg/Clearwater, FL

Many times, deals can be found by going against the flow. Most Americans have already enjoyed their summer week of sand and sun, so popular beach towns such as St. Petersburg and Clearwater, see prices start to dip in mid-August. In addition to these lower rates, you can often find deals at restaurants, spas and activities, as these businesses try to finish off the season with a flourish.
Vacation Package: Round trip airfare from NYC + 5 Nights at the 4-star Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Spa at $609 per person.

Dublin, Ireland
Nearly every year in mid-August, the $1000+ round trip airfares to Europe give way to prices that are hundreds of dollars cheaper. Popular destinations such as Ireland, Paris and Barcelona are significantly cheaper to get to, and, thanks to the Euro struggles, a bit cheaper to stay in as well.
Vacation Package: Round trip airfare from NYC + Car Rental + 5 Nights at the Radisson Blu St. Helen's at $1,433 per person.

St. Maarten (Caribbean)
Mexico and the Caribbean are well into hurricane season by now, which means deep discounts for late summer travelers. The key is to choose an island that also has good rainy-day options. This Island has 12 casinos on the Dutch side, and boutiques are plentiful to spend a day shopping instead of playing on the beach. Many artists have long made their homes here, and you'll find a number of great art studios and galleries to explore.
Vacation Package: Airfare from NYC + 5 Nights at the Westin Dawn Beach Resort & Spa at $1,069.

Killington, VT
A four and a half hour drive from New York City, this beautiful mountain town makes for the perfect long weekend away for the outdoor lover. From hiking, mountain biking or fishing to just sipping coffee at one of the local cafes and taking in the mountain views, it's a great summer escape in the Northeast for the budget-minded traveler.
Stay at four-star hotels from $110/night and three-star hotels from just $70/night.
