2 People Injured In Jersey City Shooting

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating a shooting that left two people injured in Jersey City.

The shooting happened Thursday night in the 200 block of Fulton Avenue.

A woman was struck in the head and a teenage boy in the lower torso, CBS 2 reported. Both are expected to survive.

No arrests have been made.

It is believed the victims were not the intended targets of the gunfire, CBS 2 reported.

The shootings come amid growing violence in Jersey City.

Seven people have been killed in the city in the past five weeks. There have been 13 homicides in Jersey City this year, matching last year's total.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop has acknowledged the uptick in violence and said a new class of police recruits will be put on the streets to help curb the deadly trend.
